Our Projects in Zambia
Your donation has a far-reaching impact!
Located in the interior of southern Africa and bordering eight countries, Zambia continues to face major challenges, despite relatively stable political conditions. These challenges primarily affect children, and almost 50% of the country’s population is under the age of 14. Lack of access to education in rural areas, malnutrition, and lack of health care, are major challenges, especially for the youngest in the community.
The above is a great example of the kind of situation where the TRANSEARCH ChildFund Foundation can assist.
2020: The launch of our new school and social building project
In the next five to seven years, we would like to implement another large project within the Katete cotton-growing area of Zambia. Currently there are around 700 pupils that are taught by just 11 teachers in the school, so our aim is to improve the quality of education by providing an adequate and safe learning environment for all the pupils.
As with our last Zambia project, the focus is not only on education but also on the infrastructure and the overall healthcare of the community.
Development of the Katete project will require three stages:
Together we have made a difference!
To successfully implement this project, we are dependent on further financial aid.
We need your help and support!
Key milestones during our first project in Zambia
The school project in Zambia began in 2010 and was dedicated to the Namununga Middle Basic School in the Chibombo district of Zambia. The situation was characterised by deplorable teaching, learning and hygiene conditions. Dilapidated school buildings, overcrowded classes, almost no desks and chairs, too few teachers, and a lack of teaching and learning aids prevented any real opportunities for education.
The goal was to bring today’s 1,200 children the joy of learning by creating a motivational learning environment. This included the construction of new teacher accommodation, classrooms, the installation of electricity and water infrastructure, and the construction of sanitary facilities that meet today’s hygiene standards. In addition, we built a health clinic and a sister residence, provided teaching and learning aids, renovated the sports fields, planted a school garden, and built a fully equipped school laboratory. General health education and the promotion of HIV/AIDS prevention are key goals of this project.
During annual trips, the foundation’s board of directors was able to see first-hand how important your donations are – every donation counts. Initial positive results were observed between 2011 and 2013, when the first school building was opened with two classrooms, three function rooms and sanitary facilities, as well as an initial electricity and water supply. In the following years, we also added computer equipment, a grain mill and a general shop featuring important products. The funding volume of this project amounted to almost €500,000 over a period of ten years.

From 2019 to 2021, we have achieved the following and much more with the ongoing support of our loyal donors:
- The school was officially declared a secondary school.
- Grades 10–12 have been added, meaning that pupils can now graduate with a high school diploma.
- The number of teachers across all grades was increased to 20, with 4 probationary teachers and 2 volunteers for preschool.
- Construction of a health clinic with a maternity ward
- Pregnant women and the parents of the pupils have a shorter route to the new Health Clinic, meaning that pupils recover more quickly from illness and injury, and can return to lessons much sooner.
- Approximately 7,000 inhabitants/residents in the surrounding area now have access to medical care, and the mortality rate has been reduced accordingly.
- Appropriate accommodation was constructed for the nurses of the Health Clinic, and the distance to the clinic is shorter for the nurses.
- Necessary 24/7 care is now guaranteed.
